NRSC and DeafTEC Math and Science Conference

NRSC and DeafTEC are excited to host our first-ever Math and Science Conference this year. In the past, math-only conferences have been hosted by DeafTEC, but this year, we are incorporating science topics into this conference. The aim of the Math and Science Conference is to bring together teachers of deaf and hard-of-hearing students from middle school to community college to collaborate on a variety of math and science topics.

This conference, brought to you by Rochester Institute of Technology’s NTID Regional STEM Center and DeafTEC, will be held at NTID on October 28-30, 2024.

There is no cost to attend this conference, but registration is required.

As planning continues, more information will be provided.

Sign language interpreters and CART services will be provided for all workshop sessions. Please make note of any other accommodations needed when registering.

Here at CSD Learns, we are thrilled to introduce an incredible opportunity for your Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students that we believe will truly ignite their passion for space exploration and STEM. 

Introducing Space Camp Unlimited, a unique program designed exclusively for middle and high school students at your school. This immersive experience is set to take place at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, from March 31 to April 5, 2024. 

Program Highlights: 

🚀 Astronaut Training Simulations: Your students will engage in hands-on, immersive activities that provide an authentic astronaut training experience. They will feel what it’s like to prepare for a journey to space. 

🧑‍🚀 Expert Guidance: Throughout the program, your students will have the opportunity to learn from and interact with space experts who will guide them through the fascinating world of space and STEM. 

🪐 Space Missions and More: The participants will immerse themselves in the world of space missions, moonwalks, and other captivating experiences that will leave them with unforgettable memories of space exploration. 

This is an unparalleled opportunity for your students to explore their interests in space and science, as well as to broaden their horizons and pursue their dreams.

Hosted by Gallaudet University. We are excited to welcome everyone who is interested in STEM sign language lexicons – deaf and hard of hearing students who are majoring in STEM, STEM deaf and hard of hearing professionals, K-12 teachers, STEM college professors, interpreters, educational researchers, linguists, anthropologists, and the like!

The Summit will take place over four days (March 2-5, 2024) and will have five broad tracks:

  • Education (both K-12 and higher education)
  • Interpreting in STEM
  • Development and dissemination of STEM signs
  • Sustainability of STEM sign language lexicons
  • Research by deaf and hard of hearing scientists

Registration is now open and is only $50 to register.  We will be accepting abstracts for presentations and posters soon and the deadline will be December 1, 2023.

Travel stipends will be available to graduate students and international attendees.

RIT/NTID is excited to announce our Deaf in STEM Conference, a conference focused on deaf and hard-of-hearing experiences in STEM employment. This Deaf in STEM conference aims to bridge the gap between deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals and professional and educational development in the working world. With a strong focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion, this student-led conference will explore the development of soft skills and networking while also highlighting the stories and experiences of deaf and hard-of-hearing STEM professionals. Join us this February for this event as we set the bar to empower deaf and hard-of-hearing students to take up the call in the diverse and explorative world of STEM.

The Deaf in STEM Conference is supported by the NTID Regional STEM Center (NRSC) and will happen at RIT/NTID on February 2-3, 2024. All individuals who are interested in STEM topics and want to prepare for employment in STEM fields are welcome to register for this conference.

Responding to the Climate Crisis: Is the Whole World Deaf?

RIT/NTID will host the Lyon Lectureship Series featuring Dr. Andrew Manning, a renowned Deaf climate scientist, who will give a presentation, “Responding to the Climate Crisis: Is the Whole World Deaf?” on Thursday, September 7, 2023, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Ingle Auditorium. Join Dr. Manning for a lecture as he highlights the major issues related to climate change and discusses what causes climate change and how we can respond to this crisis.

Dr. Manning is a deaf internationally recognized environmental scientist who specializes in climate change. He has worked at the School of Environmental Sciences and the University of East Anglia (UEA). At UEA, Manning established the “Carbon Related Atmospheric Measurement (CRAM) Laboratory” and teaches the next generation of students about the urgency of importance of climate change. He holds a Ph.D. at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography from the University of California in San Diego and a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Canterbury.

The lecture is free and open to the public. Interpreters have been requested.
